Product Details

The Beluga™ Bag Barrier is a large, heavy-duty flood barrier designed to protect property and critical infrastructure. Each oversized bag is divided into five chambers in a concertina-style design. Filled with sand, gravel, cement, or other fill material, it forms a sturdy levee that holds back rising water.

Each bag measures 15' long, 3' deep, and 40" high, and replaces about 750 standard sandbags. Because the fill is contained in chambers, Beluga stands tall on a narrow base and uses roughly half the sand of an equivalent sandbag wall. It also takes a fraction of the labor. Bags ship flat on pallets, and a small crew can position, open, and fill them on site ahead of an expected flood. Filled with sand, a single bag weighs about 13,150 lbs, which keeps it firmly in place against heavy flooding and storm surges.

A single layer of Beluga bags holds back up to 3' of water. The ground-conforming design contours to the surface below and works on concrete, asphalt, sand, grass, mud, and more. For greater heights, bags can be stacked to create a barrier up to 9' high, with engineer sign-off required.

Beluga is a practical addition to emergency plans for buildings, facilities, and municipalities.

Applications

  • Water Diversion: Direct water away from sensitive infrastructure and property.
  • Sewer Backflow Prevention: Place bags over sewer drains and outlets to help prevent backflow during sewer backups or rising floodwater.
  • Water Containment: Block water from spreading into other areas.
  • Levee Reinforcement: Add height to existing levees, fill gaps, or repair breaches.
  • Erosion Control: Reinforce waterfronts, riverfronts, and other erosion-prone areas without extensive site prep.
  • Cofferdams: Create a temporary enclosure for work in waterlogged areas.
