Standard & CERT Safety Hard Hats

About Standard & CERT Safety Hard Hats

Standard & CERT Safety Hard Hats provide essential head protection during emergencies, disaster response, and recovery efforts. Designed for reliability and comfort, these hard hats help reduce the risk of injury from falling debris and other hazards commonly encountered in emergency situations. Ideal for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members, volunteers, and preparedness kits, they support safer coordination and response in unpredictable environments. Durable, lightweight, and easy to store, safety hard hats are a critical component of personal protective equipment when safety and readiness are a priority.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about emergency hard hats, from ANSI ratings and CERT-specific options to lifespan and when it's time for a replacement — because head protection is only reliable if it's the right hat, properly rated, and not past its prime.

What ANSI rating should an emergency response hard hat have?

ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 Type I Class G (general use) is the standard for most emergency response and CERT work. Type II adds lateral impact protection. Class E adds electrical resistance. Choose based on hazards expected in your role.

What is the difference between Type I and Type II hard hats?

Type I protects against top impact only. Type II protects against both top and lateral (side) impact. Type II is required where lateral impact risk exists (construction, demolition, structural rescue).

Do your hard hats have chin straps?

Yes. Our ANSI-rated hard hats include universal slot mounts for chin straps, which are available as an optional purchase.

How long does a hard hat last before it needs replacing?

5 years from date of manufacture for the shell, 1 year for suspension (the inner harness). UV exposure, chemical contact, and impact reduce useful life. Replace immediately after any significant impact.

Do you carry CERT-specific green hard hats?

Yes. FEMA-standard green CERT hard hats are available in ANSI Type I configurations. Custom printing and team ID numbers are available for bulk orders.
